Jordan Matter , has a unique eye for taking photos of professional dancers in natural poses. He is one of thousands of photographers from New York has never been one to shy away from long odds. Having been a baseball player and an actor, he knows a thing or two about competition. After a career in acting, he decided to pursue his grandfather’s profession, photography, and has been able to build a fruitful career. Jordan claims he has photography in his blood, cites his inspiration as his grandfather and his father, who is a gifted film director.His photo project “Dancers among us” tells us the story of the language of dance, set in the heart of urban destinations.

Jordan’s models are engaging in their everyday activities – drinking a Coke at the stairs of the Met, riding the train or having a picnic near the famous “Painted ladies”. What makes these photos remarkable is that each model is performing a complicated dance move, to the delight of dumbfounded observers.

You can see a young girl doing splits while listening to music in the Apple Store, or a businesswoman doing handstands on the moving escalator. The observers often are used as props, however, even they gaze in amazement at the sheer athleticism of models. It’s an interesting way to illustrate the reality that everyone of us possesses an impending desire to dance.

Ummm upside down on the escalator looks really dangerous! I hope her hair didn’t get caught! an escalator tried to eat my shoe once.

@Alan: looking at butts isn’t pervy – listening to them is. Girls making their butts look great is a multi-billion dollar industry.
